Oman Names its Unified National EV Charging App Shahin

2 Min Read

Shahin has been selected as the official name for the unified national application for charging electric vehicles in the Sultanate of Oman. The name was chosen based on suggestions from a public survey launched earlier this month by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT).

By the Numbers

The new app is launching as Oman’s EV infrastructure and adoption continue to grow:

  • 1,500+: The number of registered electric vehicles in Oman in 2024.
  • 150+: The number of EV chargers installed across the Sultanate by the end of 2024.

A Unified Platform for a Seamless Experience

The Shahin app will serve as a unified national platform that includes all electric vehicle charging operators in the Sultanate, under the supervision of the Ministry. Its primary goal is to facilitate users’ access to all charging services in the country through a single, integrated application, creating a seamless and unified experience.

Part of a Broader Green Mobility Strategy

This initiative is a key component of Oman’s broader strategy to achieve net-zero emissions. Other related projects include the recent launch of Oman’s first hydrogen station, plans to replace government vehicles with electric ones, and the implementation of a “green corridors” project for trucks powered by hydrogen.

Future Expansion and Regional Cooperation

The vision for the “Shahin” app extends beyond Oman’s borders. There are plans for a future expansion of the application to include other Gulf countries, as part of a wider framework for cooperation in the field of green mobility.
