Since its launch in 2022, the ‘Nidaa’ mobile application, introduced by Oman’s Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA), has significantly enhanced emergency response services across the Sultanate. The platform aligns with Oman’s national digital transformation strategy, providing citizens and residents with a rapid and reliable method for requesting urgent assistance.
One Tap for Immediate Assistance
The core of the Nidaa app is its single-tap SOS feature, which allows users to instantly trigger an emergency alert. Upon activation, the system transmits the user’s precise location data directly to the CDAA’s Operations Centre, enabling emergency teams to be dispatched with speed and accuracy.
This silent SOS function is particularly vital for individuals with hearing impairments or those who find themselves in situations where they are unable to speak. By integrating geolocation technology with real-time communication, the app effectively reduces response times and improves the operational efficiency of emergency services.
A Comprehensive Public Safety Platform
Beyond its primary alert function, Nidaa serves as a multi-faceted public safety tool. The application provides electronic services for institutions, allowing them to submit and update evacuation plans, request approvals for emergency drills, and arrange site safety services, promoting stronger preparedness and compliance with safety standards.
Recognizing Oman’s popular outdoor culture, the app also features a trip registration service for desert, marine, and mountain excursions. Users can log their trip details and participant information, ensuring authorities can respond swiftly if an emergency arises in a remote area. An integrated interactive map also helps users locate the nearest CDAA centre or healthcare facility.
Proven Impact on the Ground
The app’s real-world value has been demonstrated in numerous life-saving incidents. Capt. Ibrahim bin Marhoon al Hinai, Assistant Officer at the Emergency Management Centre, confirmed the app’s critical role, citing a recent case where a woman experiencing an epileptic episode sent an alert. Responders used the transmitted coordinates to reach her promptly and provide immediate medical care.
Officials stress that such cases highlight how digital solutions are indispensable in emergencies where verbal communication may not be an option. Since its launch, Nidaa has been used to report a wide range of incidents, including traffic accidents, fires, missing persons cases, and drowning emergencies.
