3 Min Read

Ooredoo Fintech, the digital financial services arm of the regional telecommunications giant, has officially received approval from the Central Bank of Tunisia to launch its digital wallet, walletii by Ooredoo. This regulatory green light marks a significant step in the company’s strategic expansion across the MENA region and its mission to enhance financial inclusion through regulated digital services.

Strategic Partnerships for Market Integration

To ensure a seamless entry and robust integration into the Tunisian financial ecosystem, Ooredoo Fintech is launching walletii in partnership with key local and regional players. The collaboration includes QNB Group, a leading regional financial institution, and Monétique, Tunisia’s national electronic payments operator. These partnerships are crucial for integrating the platform with the local financial system and ensuring full compliance with national payment regulations.

Driving Financial Inclusion in Tunisia

The walletii by Ooredoo platform is designed to provide essential financial tools to a broad user base. The digital wallet will enable users to conveniently pay bills, transfer money to peers, and withdraw cash.

A core component of the service’s strategy is its reliance on a widespread agent network throughout Tunisia. This network will facilitate easy onboarding and cash-in/cash-out operations, specifically targeting the underbanked and unbanked segments of the population and providing them with greater access to the digital economy.

A Regional Fintech Vision

The launch in Tunisia is part of Ooredoo Fintech’s broader vision to establish a strong presence across MENA. The company aims to replicate its success in other markets by offering secure and accessible payment solutions.

Mirko Giacco, International CEO of Ooredoo Fintech, stated, “This approval enables us to expand the walletii brand into a new market by bringing a proven, successful digital wallet to Tunisia. By leveraging our experience across the region, we aim to empower consumers and businesses with secure, everyday payment solutions that support financial inclusion and local economic growth.”
