The Palestinian tech ecosystem has marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of the new Jerusalem Technology and Entrepreneurship Center (BCITE). Housed in the historic Al-Hamra Palace building, the center is a collaborative initiative between Al-Quds University, the French Consulate General in Jerusalem, the French Development Agency (AFD), and the Palestinian NGO Development Center (NDC).

The launch event was attended by key figures including Nicolas Kassianides, Consul General of France in Jerusalem; Véronique Sauvat, Director of the AFD office in Jerusalem; and Ghassan Kasabreh, Director of the NDC, along with representatives from the European Union, the German Development Bank (KfW), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

A €1.2 Million Boost for Palestinian Innovation

The establishment of the BCITE was made possible through a €1.2 million grant from the French Development Agency (AFD) to Al-Quds University. This funding is part of the broader ‘Action for Jerusalem’s Identity and Resilience’ program, which is implemented by the Palestinian NGO Development Center.

The investment has transformed the historic Al-Hamra Palace into a modern hub designed to foster innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship within the local community.

Fostering a New Generation of Entrepreneurs

The Jerusalem Technology and Entrepreneurship Center is designed to function as an integrated platform for entrepreneurial training and business incubation. Its core mission is to bridge the gap between students and young entrepreneurs on one side, and investors, industry experts, and private sector players on the other.

By providing essential resources and fostering collaboration, the center aims to be a vital force in stimulating innovative ventures and strengthening economic resilience in East Jerusalem and across Palestine.

A Strategic Partnership for Resilience

In his opening remarks, Imad Abu Kishek, CEO of the Al-Quds University Association, expressed his deep appreciation for the donor support, emphasizing that the center is a fundamental pillar of the university’s strategy to enhance innovation and support startups.

Nicolas Kassianides, the Consul General of France in Jerusalem, highlighted his country’s pride in supporting the project. He noted that the French contribution helped convert a revered historical landmark into a vibrant, modern technology center pulsating with innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.
