The MENACatalyst Foundation recently organized a hackathon in Ramallah for creative environmental and social initiatives as part of its 21st Century Skills project. The event brought together 100 school students to develop innovative solutions for local challenges, culminating in the crowning of six winning teams.
By the Numbers
The hackathon is part of a long-running and impactful youth program:
- 100 Students: The number of school students who participated in the hackathon.
- 6 Winning Teams: The number of teams that won the competition by presenting innovative solutions.
- 2,500+ Beneficiaries: The total number of students who have benefited from the “21st Century Skills” project since it was launched in 2019.
Fostering Youth-Led Innovation
The hackathon provided a platform for students to apply the skills they’ve acquired through MENACatalyst’s programs. Mr. Ashraf Taha, Deputy Chairman of the Foundation, praised the high level of skills the students demonstrated, which enabled them to “develop student initiatives that contribute to raising environmental awareness and providing advanced social solutions”. The event was attended by Mr. Salah Haniyeh, Deputy Mayor of Ramallah, who emphasized the municipality’s support for initiatives that invest in the potential of young people.
A Strategic Partnership for a Greener Future
This event operates within the framework of the “Makani Incubator,” an initiative of the Ramallah Municipality, which has a partnership agreement with the MENACatalyst Foundation. The collaboration aims to unleash the creativity of Palestinian youth and encourage them to provide innovative solutions in the fields of the green economy, smart cities, and sustainability.
