Applications are now open for the fifth cohort of the BRAIN Accelerator, a one-year hybrid program designed to support seed-stage DeepTech startups in Africa, with a particular focus on the climate and health sectors. The Pan-African initiative aims to equip startups with the tools, network, and customized support needed to become market and investment-ready.
Program Overview and Mission
BRAIN (Bridging Research and Innovation) is a pioneering Pan-African initiative that holistically strengthens the foundations of DeepTech across the continent through dissemination, acceleration, and connection. The mission of the accelerator is to support high-potential African science-led ventures and connect the community through research, advocacy, and talent exchange.
What Participants Will Receive
The one-year program offers a comprehensive support system for founders, including:
- Immersive Regional Bootcamp: An in-person training experience in South Africa alongside MIT executive MBA students and global experts.
- Tailored Startup Support: Customized business and technical mentorship from international trainers and subject matter experts.
- International Immersion Opportunities: On-demand exposure trips to the US, France, and Africa, tailored to each startup’s strategic growth needs.
- Access to Investors & Funding Support: Expert guidance on fundraising readiness, pitching sessions, and investor engagement.
- A Pan-African Innovation Community: Access to the Open Startup (OST) network of founders, experts, and ecosystem leaders.
Who Should Apply?
The program is looking for seed-stage DeepTech startups that meet the following criteria:
- The startup is incorporated on the African continent.
- It has a strong DeepTech innovation based on scientific research.
- The startup is currently at or near an MVP stage.
- It demonstrates a path towards intellectual property (IP).
- It can demonstrate early traction or early deals.
