Presight, the ADX-listed AI and big data analytics company under the G42 umbrella, has announced a landmark multi-year agreement with Albania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs. The partnership will see the UAE-based firm implement a comprehensive, nationwide AI-powered smart nation programme, reinforcing the growing influence of MENA tech on the global stage.
A Blueprint for a Smart Nation
The ambitious agreement involves the deployment of an integrated AI-powered smart city platform across 20 Albanian cities and 28 international border points. This digital transformation aims to overhaul and coordinate essential public services through a new, next-generation command and control framework.
Key objectives of the programme include digitalising critical national infrastructure and integrating AI into governmental decision-making processes. This will deliver real-time operations management, enhance mobility and traffic systems to reduce urban congestion, and significantly improve emergency response coordination and preparedness. The initiative is viewed by Albania as a strategic investment in its long-term safety, resilience, and modernisation.
Strategic UAE-Albania Partnership
This deal formalises a letter of intent signed in February during a state visit by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, highlighting the strengthening strategic ties between the two nations. The project not only brings Presight’s world-class public sector AI expertise to Europe but also references the UAE’s own pioneering digital transformation as a successful model.
Through this programme, Albania is positioned to become a regional benchmark for the responsible and scalable application of AI, potentially inspiring similar initiatives across Southeast Europe and the Balkans.
Project Scope and Scale
The initial phase of the project is valued at $118.5 million and is financed through a loan from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
The extensive hardware deployment includes 2,239 automatic licence plate recognition cameras, 2,602 pan-tilt-zoom cameras for traffic monitoring, 3,816 body cameras for police officers, 100 smart radars, and 100 traffic sensors. This comprehensive network will form the backbone of the nation’s new AI-driven public service infrastructure, enhancing institutional efficiency and improving daily life for its citizens.
