PureHealth, the largest integrated healthcare network in the Middle East, has launched a state-of-the-art, AI-powered national reference laboratory through its subsidiary, PureLab. The new facility is set to become a central pillar in the UAE’s strategy to advance and centralize its national diagnostic capabilities.
Inside the AI-Powered Facility
Spanning an impressive 70,000 square feet across seven storeys, the laboratory is engineered for the future of diagnostics. It leverages AI-driven automation, real-time quality control, and seamless integration with a network of over 140 laboratories. Operating 24/7, the facility is capable of processing more than 30 million samples annually, with built-in capacity for future expansion.
The laboratory integrates a suite of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and energy-efficient infrastructure. It offers a comprehensive menu of over 1,800 test parameters across critical specialties such as anatomic pathology, molecular genetics, hematopathology, transplant compatibility, and infectious disease detection. This is all supported by a multidisciplinary team of 1,300 consultants with deep expertise in laboratory management and clinical operations.
A Pillar for National Healthcare Ambitions
The launch aligns with Abu Dhabi’s vision for a smart, patient-centered healthcare system. Dr. Fayeza Saif Alyafei, Executive Director of the Healthcare Quality Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, highlighted the project’s importance.
“The launch supports the emirate’s ambition for a smart, integrated and patient-centered healthcare system,” she noted, adding that regulators remain focused on “enabling innovation and high-impact investments that improve diagnostic accuracy, speed of care delivery and health outcomes.”
Arindam Haldar, CEO of PureLab, emphasized the facility’s strategic role. He stated that it is designed to serve as a national reference laboratory, supporting key public health programs such as newborn screening, infectious disease surveillance, and transplant matching.
Advanced Digital Pathology and Integrated Services
A core innovation within the facility is its AI-enabled digital pathology platform, which is based on Whole Slide Imaging. This technology converts traditional glass slides into high-resolution digital images, enabling faster, AI-assisted analysis. The system effectively connects oncology centers across the UAE, facilitating remote slide reviews, virtual consultations, and more rapid clinical decision-making.
The facility also champions sustainability, incorporating a hybrid transport fleet, paperless digital reporting, energy-efficient building materials, and rooftop solar panels. Through a unified platform, healthcare providers can now submit a wide range of tests more efficiently, reducing reliance on multiple laboratories and streamlining the diagnostic process for patients nationwide.
