Qatar’s push toward digitized education gains momentum as Qatar Academy Msheireb (QAM), an institution under the Qatar Foundation, rolls out two virtual platforms designed to extend the boundaries of the traditional classroom. The introduction of the “Digital Reading World” and the “Virtual Innovation and Fabrication Lab” highlights a growing institutional focus on interactive, remote-accessible educational technology.
Quick Facts
-
Platforms launched: Virtual library and digital fabrication lab.
-
Core focus: Programming, 3D design, and bilingual reading.
-
Alignment: International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme standards.
Scaling EdTech and Interactive Learning in Qatar
The dual-launch provides students with flexible online environments built to sustain continuous education from home. The first platform, “Digital Reading World,” functions as a virtual library offering unrestricted access to a broad catalog of Arabic and English literature.
The initiative targets independent learning and language development by embedding reading into a student’s daily routine, regardless of their physical location.
Manal Abdulaziz Ramadan, a librarian at QAM, highlighted the strategic intent behind the rollout.
“The virtual library is a comprehensive online platform that allows students to explore books and stories anytime, from anywhere. It enhances access to knowledge and encourages independent learning,” Ramadan said.
She added that the vast array of bilingual texts actively supports knowledge expansion and language retention.
Fostering Digital Creativity Through Maker Spaces
Alongside the library, QAM deployed the Virtual Innovation and Fabrication Lab, an immersive digital workspace geared toward programming, 3D design, and multimedia production.
The lab challenges students to apply critical thinking and creative problem-solving by utilizing digital software alongside basic household materials. This hybrid approach ensures practical, hands-on experimentation remains viable in a remote setting.
Lina Mohammed Othman, an innovation and creativity teacher at QAM, explained that the lab shifts the technical maker-space experience directly into the domestic environment.
“The virtual lab was designed to bring the experience of design and innovation into students’ homes, enabling them to continue exploring and experimenting independently, while maintaining continuity of learning beyond the classroom,” Othman noted.
By connecting students with global cultural resources and digital music production tools, the curriculum aligns directly with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. The framework prioritizes inquiry-based learning and research capabilities, equipping younger demographics with essential technical competencies.
