H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, officially inaugurated the third edition of Web Summit Qatar 2026 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC). Addressing a record-breaking crowd on the opening night, the Prime Minister declared that Qatar is no longer merely observing the digital revolution but is actively “manufacturing the future.” The opening ceremony, which featured a high-energy DJ set by Questlove and advanced humanoid robot demonstrations by Unitree, set the stage for a summit focused on artificial intelligence, sovereign tech, and the rapid expansion of the MENA startup ecosystem.

Massive $2 Billion Boost To Venture Capital

In a landmark announcement for the regional investment landscape, the Prime Minister revealed an expansion of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) “Fund of Funds” program. Building on the initial $1 billion commitment, an additional $2 billion has been allocated to support international and regional venture capital funds. The program has already successfully anchored 12 major VC firms in Doha, and this new injection is expected to provide the deep capital pools necessary for startups to scale globally from within the region.

New 10-Year Residency And Start From Qatar Incentives

To cement Qatar’s status as a top-tier destination for global talent, the Prime Minister launched a 10-year residency program specifically for entrepreneurs, founders, investors, and senior executives. Paired with this is an eightfold increase in startup incentives and the extension of the “Start from Qatar” program. Under these new measures, founders registering during Web Summit can complete company formation, banking, and residency procedures within a matter of days, effectively streamlining the entry process for international tech firms.

Launch Of Qai For Sovereign Artificial Intelligence

A central pillar of the opening address was the launch of Qai, Qatar’s national artificial intelligence company. Designed to deliver sovereign AI infrastructure and software systems, Qai will provide Qatar-based startups with dedicated high-performance computing (HPC) credits. This initiative ensures that local innovators have the technical power to match the state’s financial capital, specifically targeting the high-latency infrastructure demands of modern AI development.

Record Breaking Scale For The 2026 Edition

Web Summit Qatar 2026 has officially surpassed all previous benchmarks, doubling the attendance of its inaugural year. According to Web Summit CEO Paddy Cosgrave, the event has become a critical platform for the “multipolar world” of tech. Key statistics for the 2026 edition include:

  • 30,000+ Participants representing 124 countries.
  • 1,600+ Startups, with 85% originating from outside of Qatar.
  • 800+ Investors and 400+ speakers.
  • Global Debuts from tech giants including Meta and Google, alongside partners like Microsoft and Huawei.
