Qatar’s Cyber Agency Launches New Cloud Tool to Bolster Data Privacy Compliance

3 Min Read

Qatar’s National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has released a new Cloud Computing Privacy Assessment Tool designed to help organisations improve privacy governance and data protection. The launch comes as the country pushes forward with its national digital transformation agenda.

Quick Facts

  • Tool launched by Qatar’s NCSA.
  • Aids compliance with data protection law.
  • Supports public and private sector organisations.

A Proactive Approach to Privacy Compliance

Announced on the social media platform X, the tool provides a practical framework for companies to evaluate their current privacy practices, identify potential gaps, and implement corrective measures to align with Qatar’s Personal Data Privacy Protection Law.

Led by the agency’s Personal Data Privacy Protection Department, the initiative aims to simplify the compliance process by offering structured guidance and accessible resources. The assessment focuses on strengthening controls over personal data handling within cloud computing environments, where data security and privacy risks are escalating. The goal is to improve organisational readiness through better governance, risk management, and compliance practices.

Securing Qatar’s Digital Agenda 2030

As more entities across Qatar migrate to cloud-based solutions, establishing strong privacy safeguards has become a key priority. Cybersecurity analysts point out that the country’s rapid digital adoption has expanded the overall risk landscape.

“The issue is not digital transformation itself, but transformation that moves faster than an organisation’s ability to ensure secure architecture, sound data models, visibility, and resilience,” commented Amer Bazerbachi, Partner and Head of Cybersecurity Advisory at KPMG.

Bazerbachi noted that Qatar’s Digital Agenda 2030 is speeding up the adoption of cloud, AI, and automation, which increases exposure through greater interconnectivity and third-party dependencies. “Every new connection, application interface, and vendor relationship expands the potential attack surface,” he added.

From Afterthought to Core Strategy

The new tool signals a shift from treating privacy as a simple compliance checkbox to embedding it into the core of digital strategy. Experts suggest this proactive approach is essential in today’s interconnected business environments.

“Organisations today are operating in highly interconnected environments where data flows across multiple platforms and jurisdictions,” said Abdul Malik, a Doha-based cyber-risk expert. “Tools like this help shift the approach from reactive compliance to proactive risk management, ensuring that privacy controls are continuously assessed and strengthened as cloud adoption expands.”

The NCSA is encouraging all stakeholders to use the tool and integrate its findings into their operational frameworks to support secure and sustainable digital growth.
