Cytomate, a Doha-based cybersecurity firm, has announced the launch of Battle Twin, a patented breach and attack simulation (BAS) platform specifically engineered for operational technology (OT) environments. Operating out of the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), the startup designed the platform to help industrial organizations validate their security controls against realistic cyber threats without risking the safety or uptime of live production systems.
Specialized Security for Critical Infrastructure
Industrial control systems (ICS) and SCADA networks form the backbone of Qatar’s critical infrastructure, including oil and gas, utilities, and manufacturing. Unlike traditional IT environments, these systems demand 100% uptime, making intrusive security testing high-risk. Battle Twin addresses this by creating a specialized virtual “playground” that mimics an organization’s OT security posture. This allows security teams to run controlled, repeatable attack scenarios—such as emulating industrial malware like Triton or BlackEnergy—within a safe, isolated setting.
Validating Defense through Breach and Attack Simulation
The platform utilizes breach and attack simulation (BAS) to move security teams from theoretical protection to measurable outcomes. During the launch, Cytomate demonstrated how Battle Twin can test whether network segmentation holds, whether monitoring tools provide sufficient visibility, and if specific detections trigger during a breach. By simulating prominent industrial communication protocols like Modbus, DNP3, and Profinet, the tool provides a true-to-life replica of the network for rigorous testing.
Enhancing Qatar’s Cybersecurity Resilience
The introduction of Battle Twin is a significant addition to Qatar’s local tech ecosystem, particularly as industrial systems become increasingly connected. Supported by the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council and Qatar Development Bank (QDB), the platform enables evidence-driven decision-making. Organizations can now prioritize their security investments by identifying the most consequential gaps—such as monitoring blind spots or remote access vulnerabilities—before an actual adversary exploits them.
