Qatari super-app and technology leader, Snoonu, has announced a significant expansion of its research and development (R&D) program, committing an investment of QR750 million by 2030. This strategic initiative, highlighted by the launch of its new Innovation District, aims to solidify its position as a national technology champion and contribute to the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. The investment will focus on deploying advanced technologies to streamline operations and enhance the customer experience across the region.

The Snoonu Innovation District

A central element of the company’s new R&D strategy is the establishment of the Snoonu Innovation District. This dedicated hub is designed to foster cutting-edge technological development and cultivate talent. It serves as a physical embodiment of Snoonu’s mission to push the boundaries of innovation while creating a collaborative environment for knowledge-sharing across various industries. Hamad al-Hajri, Founder and CEO of Snoonu, stated, “By deepening our R&D investment and launching the Snoonu Innovation District, we’re putting that belief to work, cultivating talent, accelerating innovation, and delivering impact for our customers, partners, and community.”

Strategic Focus on AI and Logistics

Snoonu’s five-year R&D roadmap will concentrate on scalable solutions in key high-tech areas. The company plans to advance its capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and sustainable green logistics. This focus is intended to create smarter, more personalized customer experiences while improving operational efficiency. “Our five-year R&D strategy focuses on advancing AI, automation, and sustainable green logistics,” said Jose Juan, Director of R&D – Logistics Product/Engineering at Snoonu. “We are also strengthening our super-app ecosystem for GCC markets to deliver smarter, more personalised customer experiences while keeping human connection at the core.”

Cultivating Local and Global Talent

A crucial part of Snoonu’s vision involves significant human capital development. The company plans to expand its engineering team to 1,000 professionals by 2030, creating a robust talent pipeline for Qatar’s tech ecosystem. This initiative includes collaborations with Qatar Foundation universities to empower and integrate graduates into its workforce, which currently comprises expertise from over 90 nationalities.

Pathway to Unicorn Status

Snoonu’s ambitious R&D plans are supported by strong financial backing and a clear growth trajectory. The company previously secured a QR800 million strategic investment from Jahez Group, which valued Snoonu at over QR1 billion. This milestone makes it the first Qatari tech startup to achieve this valuation, setting it on a clear path to becoming the nation’s first “unicorn” and a leading technology powerhouse in the GCC. The company has also demonstrated its technological prowess by supporting major global events in Qatar, including Formula 1 and MotoGP.
