Saudi Accelerator Exel by Merak Launches Second Gaming Cohort With 19 Startups

3 Min Read

Saudi-based gaming accelerator Exel by Merak has officially launched its second cohort, selecting 19 promising startups from a competitive pool of over 300 applicants. The new cohort features a diverse range of projects spanning mobile, PC, and console gaming, reinforcing the Kingdom’s growing influence in the global gaming industry.

A $300,000 Investment Package

Each of the 19 selected startups will receive a significant investment package valued at $300,000. This funding is strategically divided into $150,000 in cash and $150,000 in-kind services. The in-kind support includes critical resources such as expert mentorship, legal and HR assistance, and access to essential development tools, designed to provide a comprehensive foundation for growth.

Intensive 16-Week Program

The cohort will embark on an intensive 16-week program, beginning with a two-week virtual bootcamp. This will be followed by approximately 14 weeks of in-person acceleration in Riyadh, offering founders direct access to the heart of Saudi Arabia’s burgeoning tech ecosystem.

The program is structured to fast-track development, refine business strategies, and connect the startups with a global network of mentors, industry leaders, and potential investors.

Bolstering the Kingdom’s Gaming Ambitions

This initiative is a key part of Exel’s mission to cultivate a strong pipeline of game studios and gaming technology companies within Saudi Arabia and the broader MENA region. The accelerator provides a crucial pathway for both local and international startups to tap into the Saudi market as it positions itself as a global gaming hub.

“Powered by the success of our inaugural cohort, Cohort 2 of the Exel Gaming Accelerator has launched with strong momentum,” said an Exel by Merak spokesperson. “The program attracted a high-calibre mix of international and local studios who see the Kingdom as a launchpad for globally ambitious games. Our ambition is simple: to give founders a decisive competitive edge and, in doing so, help shape the future of gaming in the Kingdom.”

Following the conclusion of this cohort, Exel plans to open applications for its third cohort in April 2026.
