The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) is set to deepen its collaboration with global technology giant IBM to accelerate the Kingdom’s advancements in artificial intelligence and quantum computing. The expanded partnership aims to leverage IBM’s world-class research and development capabilities to bolster Saudi Arabia’s position as a leader in the digital economy.
The announcement follows a recent visit by Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, President of SDAIA, to IBM’s corporate headquarters in New York. Dr. Al-Ghamdi met with Arvind Krishna, Chairman and CEO of IBM, to discuss strategic opportunities for cooperation.
Tapping Into Global Expertise
A key aspect of the collaboration will involve tapping into IBM’s renowned research facilities, including the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center and its Quantum Innovation Center. This will provide Saudi researchers and developers with access to cutting-edge technologies and expertise, fostering an environment of innovation within the Kingdom.
The partnership will also focus on building advanced data platforms and enhancing software development through IBM’s software development lab located in Saudi Arabia.
Fostering National Capabilities
The agreement outlines several key areas for mutual cooperation, including the development of national AI talent, the exchange of expertise between SDAIA and IBM, and joint support for quantum computing projects. By focusing on building local capabilities, the initiative directly supports Saudi Arabia’s long-term goal of creating a self-sustaining technology ecosystem.
This strategic push aligns with the Kingdom’s broader national objectives, positioning AI as a critical factor in driving innovation and optimizing resource efficiency, a theme recently highlighted by Saudi ministers at the G20 summit.
A Vision 2030 Catalyst
This expanded partnership is a significant step in realizing the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. By collaborating with leading international technology firms like IBM, SDAIA is actively working to build an advanced digital economy and elevate the Kingdom’s status as a global hub for data- and AI-driven industries.
