The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially joined the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), a prestigious, OECD-hosted initiative aimed at guiding the responsible development and use of AI. Represented by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), this accession cements the Kingdom’s position as a key player in shaping global AI governance and ethical standards.
A Seat at the Global AI Governance Table
By joining the GPAI, Saudi Arabia gains direct influence over the formulation of international AI policies. The Kingdom will participate in the GPAI Council, which operates at a ministerial level, alongside senior stakeholders from business, civil society, and the global technical community.
This strategic move allows Saudi Arabia to actively contribute to setting international standards for artificial intelligence. It also aims to attract high-quality global investments by demonstrating a robust and globally-aligned regulatory environment for AI technologies.
Upholding International Standards for Responsible AI
Membership in the GPAI is contingent on a demonstrated commitment to shared values, specifically those reflected in the OECD Recommendation on Artificial Intelligence. New members must show a proactive role in advancing responsible AI grounded in human rights and nominate experts with sufficient knowledge in the field.
SDAIA emphasised the importance of these partnerships with global organisations to enhance cooperation in AI ethics and policies. This collaboration is seen as vital for establishing international standards that promote the safe, ethical, and responsible use of AI technologies across borders.
About the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI)

It currently brings together 44 member countries, along with partners from industry, academia, and civil society, to promote the responsible development and use of AI. The partnership is dedicated to advancing human-centric and trustworthy artificial intelligence in line with shared democratic values.
