The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) has opened registration for an intensive five-day quantum computing boot camp, a significant move aimed at building national capabilities in one of the world’s most advanced technological fields. The program, running from January 11 to 15, is designed to equip local professionals with foundational and practical skills in this emerging domain.
Organised in collaboration with King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), the initiative targets specialists in computer science and related disciplines. This effort aligns directly with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which prioritises investment in advanced and emerging technologies to diversify the economy and foster a knowledge-based society.
A Strategic Push for Advanced Technology Skills
The boot camp is a key component of SDAIA’s broader strategy to prepare Saudi talent for the future of computing. Quantum computing, which leverages the principles of quantum mechanics to perform complex calculations far beyond the capacity of classical computers, is expected to revolutionise sectors like cybersecurity, materials science, and data-intensive research.
Ahmed Alghamdi, CEO of the Capacity Building Sector at SDAIA, stated that the boot camp represents a crucial step in building national readiness for quantum technologies. By prioritising capability-building programs, SDAIA aims to strengthen the local innovation ecosystem and reduce the Kingdom’s reliance on external expertise, ensuring that quantum skills become a strategic national asset in the coming decade.
Bridging Theory and Practical Application
The program curriculum is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of quantum computing, moving from core theory to applied learning. Participants will be introduced to the fundamental physical and mathematical principles, including qubits, quantum superposition, and entanglement.
A strong emphasis is placed on hands-on experience. Attendees will learn to design and run quantum algorithms using industry-recognised tools and platforms such as Qiskit and CUDA-Q. This practical focus is designed to equip participants with the skills needed to engage with real-world quantum computing workflows, ensuring the training extends beyond purely conceptual knowledge.
About the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA)
