Saudi Arabia Officially Begins Countdown To Host World Expo 2030 In Riyadh

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially commenced its journey to host the next World Expo after representatives for Expo 2030 Riyadh received the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) flag during the closing ceremony of Expo 2025 Osaka. This symbolic handover marks the formal transfer of responsibilities and the start of preparations for the global event, set to reinforce the Kingdom’s position on the world stage.

A Symbolic Handover In Osaka

The BIE flag was accepted by Eng. Ibrahim Alsultan, Minister of State and CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, signifying the official countdown to the landmark event. The ceremony was attended by a delegation of senior Saudi representatives, including Faisal Alibrahim, Minister of Economy and Planning, and Dr. Ghazi Binzagr, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Japan, underscoring the national commitment to delivering a world-class exhibition. “This moment marks the official countdown to an unprecedented edition of the world’s most prominent exhibition,” Eng. Alsultan stated, highlighting the unified national effort behind the project.

Vision 2030 In The Global Spotlight

Expo 2030 Riyadh will be held under the theme “The Era of Change: Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow,” a concept that directly aligns with the ambitious goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The theme aims to foster global cooperation in addressing shared challenges through innovation, sustainability, and inclusive development. The event is positioned to showcase the Kingdom’s rapid transformation and its leadership in pioneering solutions for the future.

From Planning To Delivery Mode

With the flag handover complete, the project now shifts from planning to execution. Eng. Talal AlMarri, CEO of Expo 2030 Riyadh Company, confirmed this transition, stating, “This milestone moves us firmly into delivery mode. Expo 2030 Riyadh will set new global benchmarks in sustainability, creativity, and inclusivity.” The organizing committee engaged with participating nations throughout Expo 2025 Osaka to align on priorities and objectives, laying the groundwork for a collaborative and impactful event.

Setting The Stage For Success

Saudi Arabia’s capabilities were on full display in Osaka. The Saudi Pavilion concluded its participation with a record-breaking attendance of over 3 million visitors, the highest in its history. Furthermore, the “From Osaka to Riyadh” cultural showcase attracted over 15,000 visitors, demonstrating the Kingdom’s expertise in managing large-scale international events. The Riyadh Expo is scheduled to run from October 1, 2030, to March 31, 2031, with projections of over 42 million visits from 197 countries.
