Saudi Arabia’s Solutions by STC Secures $372M Supercomputing Deal With Aramco

4 Min Read

Saudi Arabia’s heavy industry sector continues its aggressive push into advanced digital infrastructure. In a massive new infrastructure agreement, Solutions by STC has signed a SAR 1.39 billion ($372 million) contract with Saudi Aramco to build out an Upstream Supercomputers project. The deal reinforces a growing trend of major energy producers leveraging complex computing frameworks to optimize resource extraction and maximize asset value.

Quick Facts

  • Contract value hits SAR 1.39 billion ($372 million).
  • Deploys two new upstream high-performance computing systems.
  • Financial impact for STC begins in Q1 2027.

Accelerating Upstream Exploration With High-Performance Computing

The one-year contract tasks Solutions by STC with the full end-to-end lifecycle of the high-performance computing (HPC) cluster. This includes system design, deployment, software licensing, technical support, and ongoing managed services throughout the operational life of the systems.

These two newly contracted HPC systems will function concurrently to process massive volumes of seismic and subsurface data. For an energy giant like Saudi Aramco, speed and accuracy in subsurface imaging are critical variables for exploration and development. By deploying advanced supercomputers specifically tailored for upstream operations, Aramco aims to accelerate reservoir analysis, enabling faster and highly precise drilling and development decisions.

Aramco’s $11.3 Billion Tech Value Strategy

Saudi Aramco has moved its artificial intelligence and digital transformation efforts from experimental phases directly into operational scale, yielding highly measurable financial returns. In 2025, the company reported a Technology Realised Value (TRV) of $5.3 billion. Of that total, $2.6 billion was directly attributable to AI-driven applications spread across roughly 500 verified use cases.

This heavy operational focus brings Aramco’s cumulative TRV to $11.3 billion since 2023. Advanced computing power acts as the backbone for these financial gains. As of November 2025, Aramco already operated five supercomputers listed in the prestigious Top500 global ranking. Among these is the Dammam-7 Cray CS-Storm, a 672,520-core system supplied by STC in 2021. The Dammam-7 system currently ranks 79th globally, delivering a peak performance of 55.42 petaflops.

Deepening the STC and Aramco Partnership

Signed on March 17, 2026, the $372 million project builds upon an existing strategic relationship between the two domestic heavyweights. Just months prior, Solutions by STC and Saudi Aramco executed a five-year framework agreement. That previous deal established the stc group subsidiary as a preferred supplier for Aramco’s large-scale digital computing infrastructure, covering everything from HPC deployments to full-scale data center maintenance.

Because HPC projects of this scale require significant technical implementation timelines, Solutions by STC expects the financial impact of this massive contract to materialize on its financial statements starting in the first quarter of 2027.
