Saudi-based deep-tech startup Strataphy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global energy technology leader Baker Hughes to accelerate the deployment of geothermal cooling solutions across the Kingdom. This strategic partnership positions Baker Hughes as the preferred equipment and services provider for Strataphy’s growing portfolio of large-scale cooling projects, marking a significant step in the adoption of sustainable infrastructure technology in the region.
Unlocking Subsurface Power For Cooling
Under the terms of the agreement, the two entities will collaborate to implement geothermal-powered cooling systems designed to service data centers, healthcare facilities, industrial sites, and giga-projects. Strataphy, which specializes in subsurface-powered cooling, utilizes a “Cooling-as-a-Service” model that allows clients to adopt energy-efficient technology without significant upfront capital investment.
The partnership leverages Strataphy’s proprietary geothermal platform alongside Baker Hughes’ extensive technical expertise and equipment capabilities. By combining local deep-tech innovation with global industrial scale, the collaboration aims to address Saudi Arabia’s rising cooling demand while supporting decarbonization efforts. Geothermal cooling offers a low-carbon alternative to traditional HVAC systems, capable of delivering up to 50% reductions in electricity consumption.
Combining Local Innovation With Global Expertise
The alliance represents a major scalability milestone for the Khobar-based startup, which recently closed a $6 million seed funding round. By integrating Baker Hughes’ supply chain and service capabilities, Strataphy aims to enhance its execution capacity for high-impact projects aligned with Vision 2030.
Dr. Ammar Alali, CEO of Strataphy, highlighted that collaborating with a technology leader like Baker Hughes validates the scalability of their platform. He noted that the partnership demonstrates how deep-tech innovation and local execution can work together to drive the energy transition. Similarly, Fadi Al-Jafari, Vice President for the Saudi Arabia Geozone at Baker Hughes, expressed excitement about deploying their subsurface and surface technologies in innovative direct-use geothermal applications within the Kingdom.
