Sohag University has announced it has secured EGP 1.6 million in funding to enhance its support for innovators, entrepreneurship, and emerging startups on campus. The initiative reflects the university’s commitment to fostering a knowledge-based economy and is part of a broader project for Technology Transfer and Marketing Offices, overseen by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology under the supervision of the Prime Minister’s office.
A Strategic Push For A Knowledge-Based Economy
Dr. Hassan Al-Noamani, President of Sohag University, emphasized the strategic importance of this funding, highlighting its role in converting academic research into projects with tangible economic value.
“These projects represent a strategic pillar for the university in the coming phase,” Dr. Al-Noamani stated. “They play a pivotal role in supporting researchers and innovators among our faculty and students, and in creating a stimulating environment for creativity and innovation.”
Bridging Academia And Industry
The funding aims to strengthen the university’s innovation ecosystem by forging stronger connections between academic research and the surrounding industrial community. Dr. Hani Mahmoud, Advisor to the University President for Innovation Affairs, detailed the vision for this collaboration.
“This funding is primarily aimed at supporting and developing the innovative environment within the university and strengthening cooperation by linking the university with the local industrial community,” explained Dr. Mahmoud. He noted that this will help “transform scientific research outputs into applicable and marketable industrial and technological products.”
Fostering Innovation Over Two Years
The EGP 1.6 million grant will be deployed over two years, focusing on stimulating the entire innovation pipeline from ideation to commercialization. This initiative is aligned with Egypt’s national strategy to build a creative society founded on knowledge and innovation.
Dr. Mahmoud added that the program is designed to “support entrepreneurs and individuals with creative ideas, consistent with the state’s direction towards building a society capable of achieving sustainable development and facing future challenges.”
