Space42 Confirms Thuraya Services Uninterrupted After Missile Strike in Sharjah

2 Min Read

Abu Dhabi-based AI and space technology giant Space42 has confirmed that its satellite communications subsidiary, Thuraya, remains fully operational after a direct missile strike hit its Sharjah building on April 7. The company stated there has been no disruption to its services for customers and partners.

Quick Facts

  • Thuraya services and infrastructure are fully operational.
  • Two individuals were moderately injured in the attack.
  • The strike follows a similar attack on a du facility.

A Pattern of Attacks on UAE’s Digital Backbone

The incident, which resulted in two Pakistani expatriates being hospitalized with moderate injuries, marks a significant escalation in the targeting of the UAE’s critical digital infrastructure. The attack on the Thuraya building occurred just one day after Iranian missiles struck a du telecommunications facility in Fujairah.

This was not the first time the Sharjah building was targeted. On March 30, the same facility was hit by a drone, though no injuries were reported in that incident. The close succession of these attacks on two separate telecom operators suggests a coordinated effort to disrupt the nation’s connectivity infrastructure.

National Defense Systems Under Pressure

The UAE’s Ministry of Defence confirmed its air defense systems successfully engaged one ballistic missile and 11 UAVs launched from Iran on April 7 alone.

Since the beginning of hostilities on February 28, the country’s defenses have intercepted a total of 520 ballistic missiles, 26 cruise missiles, and 2,221 UAVs. According to official figures, the conflict has resulted in 13 fatalities, including two members of the armed forces and 10 civilians, with total injuries reaching 221.
