In a significant move to strengthen the regional innovation landscape, the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park) has announced a strategic partnership with the Arab Federation for Scientific Research Councils (AFSRC). The collaboration is aimed at building an integrated Pan-Arab ecosystem for research, development, and technology transfer.
The two organizations recently held discussions to lay the groundwork for future joint initiatives designed to convert academic knowledge into tangible economic and developmental value across the Arab world.
A Strategic Push For A Unified R&D Ecosystem
The partnership focuses on coordinating mechanisms to implement high-impact initiatives that enhance institutional and research integration among Arab nations. Discussions were led by H.E. Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTI Park, and Prof. Dr. Abdul Majeed Bin Amara, Secretary-General of the AFSRC.
H.E. Hussain Al Mahmoudi stated that the consultations reflect SRTI Park’s vision “to build effective Arab strategic alliances capable of accelerating the transformation of knowledge into sustainable economic applications and reinforcing Sharjah’s position as a regional and international hub for research, development, and innovation.”
Prof. Dr. Abdul Majeed Bin Amara emphasized the need for a new phase of structured collaboration. He noted that it “requires structured Arab institutional integration in scientific research and technology transfer to unify resources and expertise, and to enhance the ability of Arab countries to address developmental and economic challenges through science- and innovation-driven solutions.”
Fostering Cross-Border Collaboration and Green Tech
A key objective of the alliance is to develop cross-border Arab research groups that bring together research councils, universities, innovation centers, and key industry players. These alliances will focus on executing strategic projects, accelerating technology transfer, and preparing Arab economies for a transition to knowledge-based models.
The talks also highlighted the importance of supporting green innovation and sustainable technologies throughout the region, establishing frameworks to incubate and accelerate promising research-based ventures.
From Research To Commercial Viability
The partnership aims to enhance mechanisms for the commercialization of Arab intellectual property. By creating stronger links between research outputs, industrial partners, and investors, the initiative seeks to increase the economic return of scientific research and boost the competitiveness of Arab knowledge products on the global stage.
Further cooperation will include organizing joint scientific conferences, forums, and training programs, as well as strengthening partnerships with international organizations focused on intellectual property and technology transfer.
Building A Pan-Arab Talent and Knowledge Network
Attracting and retaining regional talent is another cornerstone of the collaboration. The two parties emphasized facilitating the mobility of Arab researchers and scientists by developing joint capacity-building programs and fellowships. These initiatives will particularly support talent in countries facing developmental challenges.
As part of this effort, discussions also covered the establishment of a specialized Arab network to connect R&D centers and technology parks. This network will coordinate research priorities, facilitate the exchange of data and expertise, and help develop policy frameworks that promote research funding and investment in the knowledge economy.
