A new initiative aimed at fostering agricultural and livestock entrepreneurship has been launched in Al-Mayadin, Syria. The project, named “Nabta,” was announced during a meeting involving local Syrian authorities and international partners, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Coordination of Voluntary Service Organisations (COSV).
Project Launch and Key Partnerships
The official launch of the Nabta project took place at the Rural Development building in Al-Mayadin as part of the broader “Local Resilience Project in Syria.” The kick-off meeting saw attendance from the Al-Mayadin district administration and the Deir ez-Zor Directorate of Agriculture, which is supervising the project. The collaboration highlights a joint effort between local governance and international bodies to stimulate economic activity and support aspiring entrepreneurs in the region.
Empowering Local Entrepreneurs
The Nabta project will open registration next week, targeting 400 beneficiaries from the city of Al-Mayadin and its surrounding rural areas. Applicants will be selected based on specific criteria, including the possession of a viable agricultural or livestock project idea. Additional requirements include having relevant experience or existing agricultural assets, along with meeting certain age prerequisites. The initiative covers several areas in the eastern countryside, aiming to provide a significant boost to the local agricultural ecosystem.
