The 11th edition of the Syria Hi-Tech exhibition in Damascus has become a focal point for the country’s emerging startup scene, showcasing a wide range of innovative solutions in education, robotics, and entrepreneurship. The event highlights a growing ambition among Syrian youth to build a sophisticated digital future, with local companies presenting projects aimed at addressing market needs and fostering technological advancement.
Cultivating The Next Generation Of Tech Talent
A key participant, Robot Fathi, is working to empower children and young adults with skills in programming, robotics, and artificial intelligence. The company provides an online educational platform offering both free and paid services, allowing users to build real-world robotics projects using simplified technologies.
Yousef Al-Qalam, Founder and Director of Robot Fathi, stated that the company aims to do more than just teach technical skills. “We train children to analyze problems and find appropriate solutions, preparing a generation capable of leading the digital transformation in the country,” he said. Al-Qalam noted that the exhibition was a vital opportunity to connect with potential partners and expand the startup’s reach.
The company recently launched the “Annual Robotics League,” a national competition that attracted over 300 children from various provinces. Notable projects included a landmine detection robot designed by two children from Raqqa and a crop care robot developed by a young girl from Tartous.
Innovative Funding For Sports Entrepreneurs
Also present at the exhibition was Platform Plus, a startup dedicated to supporting sports entrepreneurs through a unique non-profit funding model based on “rotating funds.” The model is designed to empower emerging ventures and stimulate a culture of initiative.
Lina Al-Khatib, the Financial and Administrative Officer at Platform Plus, explained that the platform provides specialized online and in-person consulting sessions with experts in law, marketing, and management. “The core idea is based on the principle of non-profit, participatory financing,” Al-Khatib said. “We aim to expand our services to include training for SMEs to enhance their efficiency and competitiveness.”
For Platform Plus, participating in Syria Hi-Tech was a strategic move to network with key industry players, access the market, and expand its network to grow its funding pool.
Building A National AI Framework
The event also underscored a national push towards adopting advanced technologies. The Syrian Society for Artificial Intelligence and Entrepreneurship was established to integrate AI across various sectors in the country through specialized training courses, seminars, and participation in industry events.
Rami Al-Mujahid, Director of Public Relations at the society, emphasized the goal of making AI an integral part of every project. “AI is not meant to replace humans, but to accelerate business and increase productivity,” he noted. “It is essential that Syrian society keeps pace with this development to ensure a more efficient and innovative future.”
