Tunisie Telecom Launches Kashy Mobile Wallet to Advance Tunisia’s Fintech Growth

2 Min Read

In a strategic move to diversify its revenue streams, Tunisie Telecom has officially entered the digital finance sector with the launch of Kashy. The new mobile wallet, developed in partnership with Central Bank-regulated payment institution Viamobile, marks the legacy operator’s transition from a traditional telecom provider into a comprehensive digital services platform.

Quick Facts

  • Launched Kashy wallet in partnership with Viamobile.
  • Phased rollout begins across 30 outlets nationwide.
  • Initiative supports Tunisia’s national “decashing” transition strategy.

Expanding Digital Financial Inclusion

Kashy is built to simplify daily financial transactions for the Tunisian market. By using a customer’s mobile number as a unique identifier, the platform lowers the barrier to entry for digital finance. The wallet supports an array of core financial services, including peer-to-peer money transfers, cash withdrawals, wallet top-ups, and mobile-based cash-outs.

To drive user acquisition and ensure broad accessibility, Tunisie Telecom is taking a measured approach to the rollout. The service will initially be available across approximately 30 retail outlets throughout the country, establishing a physical touchpoint for onboarding and user support.

Transitioning from Telco to Tech

The introduction of Kashy represents a calculated pivot for Tunisie Telecom. As core voice and data markets mature, regional telecom operators are increasingly leveraging their massive infrastructure and customer bases to capture value in adjacent digital sectors like fintech.

This launch directly supports Tunisia’s ongoing macroeconomic initiatives. The national “decashing” strategy aims to reduce the heavy reliance on physical currency, digitize the economy, and accelerate the adoption of formal financial channels. By integrating digital payments into its existing service network, Tunisie Telecom is positioning itself as a central infrastructure player in the country’s broader digital transformation.
