The United Arab Emirates has announced a sweeping update to its entry visa regulations, introducing several new categories and amending existing ones in a move designed to attract specialized global talent and enhance the country’s business environment. The changes were announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP).
New Visas Target Specialized Talent
A key component of the new regulations is the creation of four new visit visa categories aimed at professionals in high-growth sectors. Highlighting the nation’s strategic focus on technology, a new visa has been introduced specifically for specialists in Artificial Intelligence. Other new categories target professionals in the entertainment and events industries, as well as crew members of cruise ships and leisure boats. This move is expected to make it easier for companies in these fields to bring in top-tier international talent for projects and long-term employment.
Updated Business and Residency Permits
The reforms also include important updates to business and labor-related visas. The business exploration visa now comes with more defined requirements, mandating that applicants provide proof of financial solvency, ownership of a stake in an overseas company, or documented professional practice. These changes aim to ensure that new business entrants are well-equipped to establish and operate within the UAE market. The regulations also provide structured schedules outlining the permitted stay durations and extension conditions for each visa type.
Expanded Social and Humanitarian Visas
Beyond the business-focused changes, the ICP has introduced several updates to social and humanitarian permits. A new one-year, extendable humanitarian residence permit has been launched. Additionally, a one-year renewable residence permit is now available for foreign widows or divorcees. In a significant change for residents, the new rules now allow them to sponsor friends or relatives up to the third degree for a visit visa, with eligibility determined by the sponsor’s income level.
