UAE Launches Fast Track Mobile App to Streamline Border Travel

3 Min Read

The United Arab Emirates has officially launched the “Fast Track” mobile application, a new digital initiative designed to significantly reduce the time citizens and residents spend at border crossings. This move, spearheaded by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP), is a major step in the country’s ongoing digital transformation efforts to enhance public services and improve the travel experience.

The app is now available for download on both iOS and Android platforms, aiming to create a more seamless and efficient journey for all travelers entering and exiting the country.

How Fast Track Works

The Fast Track app leverages biometric technology to create a secure and rapid identity verification process. Users can pre-register their travel details directly within the application, linking their information to their Emirates ID and passport.
Upon completing the pre-registration, the app generates a unique QR code for the traveler’s specific journey. At the border, instead of undergoing traditional manual checks, users simply scan this QR code at a designated e-gate and complete a quick facial recognition or fingerprint scan. This automated process is designed to replace manual passport stamping and reduce queues.

Enhancing Travel and Security

The primary goal of the Fast Track app is to drastically cut down waiting times at land, sea, and air borders, offering a more convenient and modern travel experience. By automating the identity verification process, the system allows for higher throughput at checkpoints, particularly during peak travel seasons.

Beyond convenience, the initiative also strengthens national security. The reliance on advanced biometric data provides a more robust and accurate method of identity verification, minimizing the risk of fraud and ensuring that only authorized individuals cross the border.

A Milestone in Digital Transformation

The launch of Fast Track is a key component of the UAE’s broader vision to become a global leader in smart governance and digital services. This initiative aligns with the country’s national strategy to integrate advanced technology into all facets of public life, making government services more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly for its population.

About the Fast Track Initiative

The Fast Track initiative is a UAE government project aimed at digitizing and expediting the border crossing process for citizens and residents. Through a dedicated mobile application, it uses pre-registered travel information and biometric data (facial recognition and fingerprints) to enable travelers to pass through automated e-gates, significantly reducing processing times and enhancing security measures at all ports of entry.
