At its global AI Tour event in Dubai, Microsoft unveiled Microsoft Elevate UAE, a significant expansion of its skilling initiative aimed at bolstering the nation’s artificial intelligence capabilities. The program commits to equipping more than 300,000 individuals across the education and government sectors with critical AI skills, directly supporting the UAE’s ambitious agenda for innovation and sustainable growth.
The announcement was a cornerstone of the AI Tour Dubai, which brought together leaders from government, industry, and education to explore the real-world impact of AI on productivity and economic development.
A Nationwide Push for AI Literacy
The core of the initiative is a two-pronged approach targeting both the future workforce and the current public sector. Microsoft Elevate UAE will provide training and access to advanced AI tools for over 250,000 students, staff, and faculty within educational institutions.
In parallel, the program will upskill more than 55,000 government employees, embedding AI proficiency within the public sector to enhance service delivery and drive innovation from within.
Strategic Partnerships Driving Innovation
This ambitious program is built on key collaborations with major UAE entities. A significant partnership with GEMS private schools will integrate AI literacy and hands-on skills for 10,000 teachers and 150,000 students.
In the public sector, Microsoft is expanding its collaboration with G42 and the JAHIZ platform to train and credential 55,000 UAE federal government employees in AI over the next 12 months, focusing on practical applications for improved public services.
“For more than three decades, Microsoft has partnered with the UAE to expand opportunity through technology,” said Brad Smith, Microsoft Vice Chair and President.
“Today’s investment strengthens that partnership by building the talent that makes AI transformative—empowering people with skills to unlock possibilities and enabling industries to innovate and improve lives.”
Building on a Landmark Investment
During his keynote, Smith highlighted how this initiative builds on Microsoft’s recently announced $1.5 billion investment in UAE-based AI firm G42. He emphasized that the combined investment in infrastructure, talent, and trust is designed to strengthen the nation’s AI ecosystem and contribute directly to the UAE’s long-term vision for inclusive growth.
Spotlight on Emirati Startups
The event also highlighted the strength of the local startup scene through its Connection Hub. Emirati entrepreneurs from AI-powered mental health platform Takalam, proptech startup PRYPCO, and enterprise AI automation firm Otera showcased their innovations. Smith met with the founders to acknowledge their contributions and reaffirm Microsoft’s commitment to the local startup community.
Amr Kamel, General Manager at Microsoft UAE, commented on the momentum, stating, “AI represents one of the most transformative opportunities of our time, and nowhere is that more evident than here in the UAE. We are proud to stand alongside visionary partners as we bring Microsoft Elevate UAE to life. Together, we are helping to translate the country’s bold AI vision into meaningful progress.”
