UAE’s M42 Spearheads Jordan’s Healthcare Transformation With New Virtual Hospital

4 Min Read

Abu Dhabi-based global health-tech powerhouse M42 has announced the launch of Jordan’s first Digital Health Center, a virtual hospital initiative set to revolutionize healthcare access across the Kingdom. The project, led by M42’s Abu Dhabi Health Data Services (ADHDS), was developed in a strategic partnership with G42’s Presight, the Jordanian Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey.

A New Era for Jordanian Healthcare

The pioneering initiative connects five remote hospitals to a central command center in Alsalt, a city in west-central Jordan. This hub-and-spoke model aims to bridge the gap in specialized medical services for patients in remote areas, allowing them to receive high-quality care without the need for costly and time-consuming travel to the capital, Amman. The project demonstrates the power of public-private collaboration in deploying advanced telehealth solutions to solve critical infrastructure challenges.

Driving Efficiency and Access Through Technology

The virtual hospital has already delivered transformative results through three core services: Tele-ICU, Tele-dialysis, and Tele-radiology. The impact has been immediate and measurable, with diagnostic imaging report turnaround times plummeting by 86%, from 14 days to under two days. Furthermore, the tele-dialysis service has empowered six nephrologists, who previously traveled to serve 32 hospitals, to now provide virtual care to five times more patients efficiently.
Through the Tele-ICU service, patients’ vital signs are streamed in real time to specialist teams, while AI-powered triage alerts help identify urgent cases. This enables continuous, high-level monitoring for critical patients, keeping them closer to their families while ensuring access to specialist oversight.

Public-Private Partnership Fuels Innovation

Government officials lauded the project as a cornerstone of Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision. H.E. Eng. Sami Smeirat, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, stated, “The Jordan Digital Health Center represents a strategic step in the path of digital transformation in Jordan’s healthcare sector… By linking hospitals through advanced digital infrastructure, we are improving lives and driving a smarter future for citizens.”

Echoing this sentiment, H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Al-Budour, Minister of Health, added, “This project is not merely about using digital tools or modern applications. It is a transformative initiative with a profound impact on improving the efficiency of the healthcare system and ensuring the optimal use of resources.”

Future Expansion and Regional Ambition

Following the resounding success of the initial phase, ADHDS has been selected to lead Phase 2, which will expand the virtual hospital network to an additional seven hospitals across Jordan. This expansion not only solidifies Jordan’s position as a regional leader in healthcare innovation but also highlights the scalability of the model. ADHDS has integrated these advanced telehealth solutions into its core service portfolio, positioning the company to support similar healthcare transformation initiatives across the MENA region.
