UAE’s MoHRE Shuts Down 230 Unlicensed Social Media Recruitment Accounts

3 Min Read

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has taken decisive action against illegal online recruitment, shutting down 230 social media accounts over the past year. The move, executed in coordination with the

Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), targets accounts that were promoting domestic worker recruitment services without the necessary legal authorization.

A Crackdown on Unlicensed Operations

Investigations confirmed that the operators of these social media accounts were functioning without the required licences from the Ministry and had no affiliation with any approved domestic worker recruitment offices. MoHRE stated that these activities represent a clear violation of the UAE’s Domestic Workers Law.

The Ministry emphasized its commitment to maintaining strict oversight of the sector through a comprehensive regulatory framework. This integrated system, combining both digital monitoring and field inspections, is designed to protect the rights of all parties involved and ensure families in the UAE have access to high-quality, competitive, and legally compliant recruitment services.

Protecting Employers and Workers

In a public statement, MoHRE warned employers and families against engaging with unlicensed recruitment services. Doing so could lead to a loss of legal rights for employers and expose families to significant risks, as these illegal operators often bypass mandatory procedures like medical examinations and thorough background checks.

In contrast, licensed recruitment offices are held to clearly defined service standards and approved pricing structures. They are legally obligated to provide trained and qualified domestic workers who meet all regulatory requirements, ensuring they are prepared to work in safe and healthy environments.

A Unified Government Effort

The Ministry commended the vital role played by the TDRA in supporting the shutdown of the illegal social media accounts, highlighting how such inter-agency collaboration strengthens the government’s unified efforts to curb violations in the recruitment sector.

MoHRE is urging the public to deal exclusively with licensed domestic worker recruitment offices, a full list of which is available on its official website. The Ministry encourages residents to report any misleading advertisements or negative practices they encounter by contacting its call centre at 600590000.
