Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute (TII) has announced a significant milestone, with 70 patents currently in process across a wide range of advanced technology fields. This achievement underscores the high-impact output of its nine dedicated research centers and reinforces the UAE’s growing position as a global hub for scientific research and development.
A Landmark Year for Innovation
According to Dr. Chaouki Kasmi, Chief Innovation Officer at TII, 2025 has been a landmark year for the institute, marked by major breakthroughs that highlight its expanding global footprint. The patents span diverse and critical domains including artificial intelligence, autonomous robotics, quantum technologies, and secure systems, reflecting a comprehensive strategy to push the boundaries of modern science.
Advancing the Frontiers of AI and Quantum
A key area of progress has been in artificial intelligence. TII launched the TII–NVAITC Joint Lab for AI and Robotics in partnership with NVIDIA, the first of its kind in the Middle East. The institute also expanded its renowned Falcon large language model (LLM) family with the release of Falcon H1, Falcon Arabic, and the multimodal Falcon 3 model, which can process video, audio, and text for advanced applications like video summarisation. On the quantum front, TII unveiled Manarat, a next-generation quantum processor designed to translate experimental concepts into scalable, real-world applications.
Breakthroughs in Space and Applied Engineering
Solidifying the UAE’s ambitions in the space sector, TII recorded a major achievement with the successful firing of the nation’s first liquid rocket engine. This development, led by the Propulsion and Space Research Centre, marks a new phase in the local development of advanced aerospace technologies. In applied engineering, TII also showcased its strength in photonics with the development of a compact 2-mm fibre laser, which has potential applications in both medical and industrial fields.
Fostering a Collaborative Global Hub
Dr. Kasmi emphasised that collaboration is central to TII’s innovation strategy, noting that the institute maintains over 100 active international partnerships. These collaborations are vital for accelerating the development and commercialisation of cutting-edge technologies. By working with global leaders like NVIDIA, TII is not only shaping the international AI and robotics landscape but is also cementing Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a premier destination for scientific excellence and global innovation.
