University of Bahrain and Tamkeen Launch Competition to Foster Student Startups

The University of Bahrain, in a strategic partnership with the Labour Fund, Tamkeen, has announced the launch of the inaugural “Startup-UoB” competition. The new initiative, kicking off this academic year, is designed to cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit among students at the university’s College of Business Administration.

A Pathway From Classroom to Boardroom

The Startup-UoB competition offers graduating business students a practical platform to transform their academic knowledge into viable business ventures. Participants will have the opportunity to develop and submit their startup ideas and projects for evaluation by a panel of industry experts and specialists. Following the judging process, top-performing students and their projects can qualify for direct support from Tamkeen, providing a crucial launchpad to transition their concepts from ideas to operational businesses poised for growth and success.

Strengthening the National Talent Pipeline

This collaboration underscores a commitment to bridging the gap between academia and the private sector, empowering the next generation of Bahraini founders. Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain, emphasized that the competition will play a significant role in showcasing the capabilities of the university’s students to develop applicable, investment-ready projects. He highlighted that the initiative strengthens the vital partnership between the university and key sectors within the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Jalahma, Dean of the College of Business Administration, praised the partnership with Tamkeen for its role in supporting student ideas, which enhances the reputation of both the college and the university as a whole. The university has announced that informational workshops and detailed guidelines on the competition’s mechanics and application process will be released in the coming days.
