Global mobility and tech platform Yango Ride has introduced a series of localized community and wellbeing programs across the UAE and Oman to support its gig workers during Ramadan.
The initiatives target the shifting mobility patterns and adjusted schedules inherent to the Holy Month, focusing heavily on driver retention and operational empathy.
Quick Facts
- Yango Ride will match driver tips for one week.
- In-app Muslim Mode aligns driving schedules with prayer times.
- Program includes Iftar distribution and driver dream fulfillment.
Localizing Mobility Tech for Ramadan
To navigate the shift toward late-evening peak hours, Yango Ride has deployed specific financial and operational support for its driver network.
As a core financial incentive, the platform is matching passenger tips for partner drivers over a one-week period, effectively doubling tip earnings.
Operationally, the company is leaning on its localized tech infrastructure. The platform’s in-app Muslim Mode allows drivers to align their active hours with daily religious practices.
When enabled, the feature issues a 15-minute alert before prayer times and automatically mutes notifications, rerouting ride requests to other available drivers.
The tool also provides a built-in Qibla compass, localized prayer schedules, and smart routing to direct drivers to the nearest mosque.
In the UAE, the company is also offering discounted mosque rides for Fazza cardholders throughout the month.
Expanding Gig Worker Wellbeing in the GCC
Beyond software localization, Yango Ride is executing on-the-ground support.
The company has established dedicated distribution zones to hand out Iftar boxes to partner drivers across major UAE cities, strategically placed to accommodate those working during high-demand evening shifts.
In Oman, the mobility firm is pushing forward with its Drivers’ Dream Fulfillment program.
Using the “My Dreams” feature in the app, drivers can publicly state personal goals—ranging from medical expenses to housing costs—allowing passengers to direct their tips toward these specific milestones. The regional branch is also hosting community football tournaments to drive engagement among its fleet.
Islam Abdul Karim, Regional Head of Yango Group Middle East, noted the importance of operational sensitivity during the month.
“Ramadan is a time that calls for responsibility and sensitivity, especially for a company operating in essential daily mobility. As a growing technology business in the region, we approach every initiative with care, ensuring that our support for drivers and passengers is meaningful and sustainable,” said Abdul Karim.
“From practical tools like Muslim Mode to direct wellbeing efforts such as Iftar distribution, our focus remains on serving the community with respect and consistency.”
