Zoom has announced a significant evolution for its AI Companion, introducing powerful new agentic AI capabilities designed to transform it from a reactive assistant into a proactive workplace collaborator. The new features, including “My notes” and “Personal workflows,” aim to automate complex tasks, capture insights more effectively, and help teams focus on high-impact work.
These new capabilities are included with paid Zoom Workplace accounts, with limited monthly usage available for free users to trial the features. The update signals a strategic shift toward proactive intelligence, where AI anticipates user needs rather than simply responding to commands.
From Assistant to Collaborator
The core of the update is to empower users to move beyond managing work and accelerate their impact. Zoom’s agentic AI solution is designed to analyze information, initiate actions, and deliver results with greater intent, streamlining daily operations for individuals and teams.
“AI is no longer just a tool — it’s a trusted collaborator that helps users analyze, act, and deliver with greater intent,” said Lijuan Qin, head of product, AI at Zoom. “With AI Companion, people can move beyond managing work to truly accelerate their impact and shift from reactive productivity to proactive intelligence, where technology doesn’t just support work, it elevates it.”
Unified Note-Taking Across Platforms
The “My notes” feature acts as a universal note-taker, functioning seamlessly across Zoom Meetings, in-person discussions, and third-party platforms like Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. This allows users to centralize all their meeting notes in one location within the Zoom Hub.
While a user jots down personal thoughts, AI Companion can enrich these notes with a full meeting transcript and a tailored recap, ensuring key insights and follow-up actions are never missed. For in-person meetings, the Voice recorder feature on the mobile client extends this summarization power, capturing important conversations that happen outside of virtual calls.
Automating Repetitive Tasks with Personal Workflows
To combat the productivity drain of repetitive tasks, Zoom introduced “Personal workflows.” This feature allows users to automate multi-step processes using simple, natural language commands. For example, a sales professional could create a workflow that states, “After every client call, automatically draft a follow-up email with key discussion points and send it within 30 minutes.”
The system uses role-based templates and natural language generation to simplify the setup of these automations, enabling teams to maintain efficiency and consistency without complex configuration.
Relevance for the MENA Tech Ecosystem
For the fast-paced and increasingly distributed workforce in the MENA region, Zoom’s advancements in agentic AI offer significant value. Startups and scale-ups across hubs like Dubai, Riyadh, and Cairo can leverage these tools to enhance operational efficiency and improve collaboration among remote and hybrid teams.
By automating routine administrative work such as meeting follow-ups and status updates, founders and their teams can dedicate more time to strategic initiatives, product development, and market expansion. As MENA companies compete on a global scale, adopting intelligent productivity tools like the enhanced AI Companion is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge, fostering innovation, and enabling scalable growth without a proportional increase in administrative overhead.
