Zoom has announced a significant expansion of its platform, introducing a suite of AI-powered productivity tools, including its own Docs, Slides, and Sheets applications. The company also revealed that its long-awaited photorealistic AI avatars, which can represent users in meetings, will be available later this month.
From Avatars to Agents
A key feature of the announcement is the launch of AI-powered avatars designed to mimic a user’s appearance, expressions, and movements. This allows users to maintain a professional presence in meetings even when they are not “camera-ready.” To address potential misuse, Zoom is simultaneously rolling out deepfake-detection technology to alert participants of possible audio or video impersonation.
Beyond visual representation, Zoom is empowering users with an AI agent builder. This tool allows non-technical individuals to create custom AI agents using natural language prompts. These agents can then be called upon in chat to perform specific tasks, integrating data from services like Slack, Salesforce, and Jira to streamline workflows.
A New Contender in Productivity Software
Zoom is directly entering the office productivity space with its own AI Docs, Slides, and Sheets. These applications will leverage AI to create drafts, populate spreadsheets, and build presentations based on data from meeting transcripts and other connected services. The new suite will be available as a preview this spring.
This expansion is powered by AI Companion 3.0, which is now coming to the desktop app and its employee communication platform, Workvivo. The company noted that the monthly active user base for AI Companion more than tripled in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026, indicating strong adoption of its AI features.
Relevance for MENA’s Hybrid Workforce
For the MENA region, Zoom’s latest advancements are particularly significant. As startups and corporations across hubs like Dubai, Riyadh, and Cairo increasingly adopt hybrid and remote work models, tools that enhance virtual collaboration are critical. The AI avatars could help combat video call fatigue while maintaining engagement in cross-border teams.
Furthermore, features like the AI-powered voice translator can help bridge language barriers in the diverse MENA market, facilitating smoother communication between international teams and clients. For startups focused on lean operations, the integrated productivity suite and AI agent builder offer a way to automate tasks and boost efficiency without significant investment in multiple software platforms, aligning with the region’s rapid digital transformation agenda.
