Saudi’s National AI Company HUMAIN to Launch New Arabic Foundation Model ALLaM 34B

2 Min Read

HUMAIN, the new national artificial intelligence company formed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), will launch a new Arabic-centric AI foundation model called ALLaM 34B by the end of August. The new model has been specifically trained and fine-tuned for performance in the Arabic language and Arab culture, with a focus on Saudi Arabia.

Key Highlights

This launch represents a significant milestone in the development of sovereign AI in the region:

  • New Model: ALLaM 34B, a new AI foundation model built from scratch.
  • Launch Date: Expected by the end of August.
  • Development Team: The model was developed by a team of 40 PhD researchers who trained it with proprietary data sets in the Kingdom.
  • Application Suite: The model will be launched as part of a complete HUMAIN Chat application suite available to the public.

A New Foundation Model Built from Scratch

According to CEO Tareq Amin, the new ALLaM 34B is not simply an update to previous versions but a completely new foundation model that has been developed and trained from the ground up. It has been fine-tuned for high performance in the Arabic language, various Arabic dialects, and with a deep understanding of Arab culture, particularly that of Saudi Arabia.

A National Champion for AI Development

HUMAIN was launched in May to drive and develop key technology areas for the Kingdom, including next-generation data centers, advanced AI infrastructure, and Arabic AI models. The company was formed by merging several technology operations, including the Saudi Company for AI (SCAI) and the AI model development team from the Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA). HUMAIN has now taken over the development and commercialization of ALLaM, the sovereign large language model previously developed by SDAIA. The HUMAIN Chat suite is expected to run on GroqCloud servers, which recently became available in Dammam.
