KAOUN International, the global events arm of the Dubai World Trade Centre, has announced the launch of GITEX Latin America, marking the premier tech event’s first foray into the continent. The inaugural event is scheduled to take place in São Paulo, Brazil, on March 16-17, 2027, establishing a significant new bridge between the MENA region’s tech ecosystem and one of the world’s fastest-growing digital economies.
A Strategic Gateway to a $950 Billion Digital Economy
The expansion into Latin America is timed to capitalize on the region’s rapid digital transformation, with its digital economy projected to reach approximately $950 billion by 2026. Organized in collaboration with the São Paulo Development Agency (ADESAMPA), GITEX Latin America aims to position the region as a central hub for digital innovation, connecting its burgeoning tech scene with global markets, capital, and talent. The event will focus on key sectors including AI, AgriTech, cloud computing, cybersecurity, HealthTech, and renewable energy.
Ricardo Nunes, Mayor of São Paulo, commented on the launch, stating, “We are honored to host GITEX Latin America, which represents an unprecedented platform connecting leading startups, unicorns, and influential companies with global markets, opening up prospects for partnerships, financing, and international expansion opportunities.”
São Paulo Chosen as the Innovation Hub
São Paulo, Brazil’s economic capital, was selected as the host city due to its status as a leading innovation hub in Latin America. According to the 2025 Global Startup Ecosystem Index Report by StartupBlink, the city ranks first both nationally and regionally. Over the past decade, São Paulo has attracted over $33.5 billion in investment, fostering an ecosystem valued at $113 billion and producing 11 unicorn startups. This dynamic environment provides a fertile ground for GITEX to catalyze cross-border collaboration and investment.
Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of KAOUN International, noted, “Brazil is the beating heart of Latin America’s economy and an inspiring model for comprehensive technological development. Through collaboration with the city of São Paulo, GITEX Latin America offers a new gateway to the digital world, providing wider access to capital, knowledge, technology, and talent as the region prepares to take a leading position on the global economic map.”
Strengthening UAE-Brazil Tech Collaboration
The announcement of GITEX Latin America was made during GITEX GLOBAL 2025 in Dubai and follows the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Brazil. The move reinforces the strategic partnership between the two nations, which have committed to expanding cooperation in AI, innovation, renewable energy, and emerging technologies.
Brazil’s significant presence at GITEX GLOBAL, where it serves as the Official National Partner for the 45th edition, underscores the deepening ties. The Brazilian delegation, led by ApexBrasil, includes over 50 startups and innovation centers, showcasing the country’s commitment to building a global innovation network.
