K2, an Abu Dhabi government-owned company specializing in advanced autonomous systems, has launched the “RAAD” Smart Civil Defence Vehicle in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority. The unveiling took place at GITEX Global 2025, showcasing a major leap in emergency response innovation for the region. The RAAD vehicle integrates AI, robotics, and unmanned aerial systems into a single mobile command-and-control platform designed to significantly enhance operational efficiency and safety.
A New Era in Emergency Response
The RAAD vehicle is the first of its kind in the region, created to improve situational awareness and enable rapid coordination during critical emergencies. It aims to transform how civil defence teams manage rescue and firefighting missions, using technology to protect lives and property more effectively.
“The launch of the RAAD vehicle represents a strategic milestone in advancing Civil Defence operational capabilities,” said Brigadier Salem Abdullah bin Barak Al Dhaheri, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority. “It reflects our commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies that enhance rescue and firefighting missions, improve response efficiency, and minimise risks to firefighters, thereby safeguarding lives, property, and the safety of our community.”
Inside RAAD’s Advanced Technology
Engineered for challenging environments, RAAD is built on a 4×4 drivetrain for off-road mobility. At its core is an AI-powered command platform that facilitates real-time situational monitoring, resource allocation, and team coordination. The vehicle is equipped with two drone containers carrying fire-suppression payloads for early-stage fire containment. It also deploys a quadruped robot capable of navigating hazardous or confined spaces to conduct inspections before human teams are sent in.
The entire system is powered by high-performance NVIDIA Orin processors, enabling real-time analysis of data and thermal imaging. A secure communication network links RAAD to its drones and central control centers, providing live video and telemetry streams throughout an operation.
Strategic Vision for a Safer Future
The RAAD initiative underscores a commitment to developing sovereign solutions that address critical national needs. By combining advanced technology with practical emergency applications, the project aligns with the UAE’s broader goals for digital transformation and innovation.
Sean Teo, Managing Director of K2, stated, “RAAD reflects K2’s commitment to developing reliable autonomous systems that support vital sectors and advance national innovation goals, aligning with Abu Dhabi’s vision for a smarter, safer, and more sustainable future.” The initiative exemplifies how cutting-edge technology can be harnessed to serve and protect communities.
