Abu Dhabi-based big data and AI company Presight has announced the establishment of its first regional research and development laboratory in Central Asia, located in Astana, Kazakhstan. The new facility, situated at the International Artificial Intelligence Centre Alem.ai at Astana Hub, marks a significant step in the company’s global expansion and deepens its commitment to Kazakhstan’s digital transformation.
Strategic Expansion into Central Asia
The launch of the R&D lab builds on Presight’s growing presence in the region, which began with the inauguration of its first Central Asia regional office in Astana earlier this year. This expansion is part of a larger strategic partnership between the UAE and Kazakhstan, which includes over $5 billion in agreements spanning AI, smart cities, and data protection. The new lab underscores Presight’s strategy to position itself as the preferred AI and digital transformation partner in Central Asia, leveraging its global experience to deliver localized solutions.
Fostering Sovereign AI Capabilities
The new R&D facility will concentrate on developing and localizing advanced solutions in artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital governance. This approach supports Kazakhstan’s national objectives for technological sovereignty and innovation-led growth. By developing solutions in-country, Presight aims to ensure its offerings align with local requirements, regulatory frameworks, and linguistic needs, setting it apart from global AI companies that typically sell pre-developed products. This initiative will help build local expertise, facilitate technology transfer, and accelerate AI adoption across key sectors of the Kazakh economy.
High-Profile Launch and Key Projects
The announcement was made by Presight’s Chief Growth Officer, Magzhan Kenesbai, during an official visit by Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev to the Alem.ai center. The new lab will support Presight’s existing large-scale projects in the country, including the Astana Smart City project, a public-private partnership with the Akimat of Astana integrating AI into urban management. The company has also been instrumental in developing Kazakhstan’s first Command Centre for Government Analytics and Decision-Making, enabling real-time, data-driven governance.
