In a significant move to foster inclusive entrepreneurship, Egypt’s National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) has announced a series of new initiatives coinciding with Women’s Entrepreneurship Day. Led by Dr. Iman Karim, the council aims to economically empower women with disabilities by providing specialized training in heritage crafts and sustainable business practices, opening new avenues for them in the labor market.
A Trio of Empowerment Initiatives
The council has rolled out three distinct programs designed to cultivate both creative and commercial skills. The “Discover Me” initiative focuses on identifying and nurturing the artistic talents of girls with disabilities through interactive workshops and mentorship.
Complementing this is the “Our Craft from Our Heritage” program, which provides hands-on training in traditional Egyptian crafts, preserving cultural heritage while creating economic opportunities. The third initiative, “Green Entrepreneurship.. Your Start from the Environment,” equips participants with the skills to produce and market upcycled products from environmental waste, tapping into the growing demand for sustainable goods.
From Skills to Sales
Dr. Karim emphasized that the council’s support extends beyond training to ensure participants can successfully market their products. The NCPD is actively organizing exhibitions in collaboration with Egypt’s Ministry of Defense, providing a direct platform for these entrepreneurs to showcase their work to the public.
Furthermore, the council facilitates participation in major national exhibitions such as “Diyarna” and “Turathna,” integrating these women-led businesses into the broader artisan and heritage markets. These efforts are designed to provide a clear path to market and foster financial independence for the participants.
