ABB Launches $2M AI Training Hub in Dubai to Boost Regional Energy Sector Skills

4 Min Read

Global technology leader ABB has opened a US$2 million training and customer experience facility in the UAE, a strategic move designed to develop critical digital and engineering skills needed to accelerate the region’s energy transition. The new center will focus on upskilling professionals in industrial, power, and utility applications, directly supporting the modernization of key sectors like data centers, utilities, and smart buildings across the Middle East.

Addressing a Critical Skills Gap

The launch comes as the regional electrification sector faces the dual challenge of an aging workforce and an urgent demand for new digital competencies. The Dubai-based hub aims to bridge this growing skills gap by equipping the next generation of engineers and technicians with expertise in AI-powered solutions and data-driven energy management.

“The electrification sector faces a dual challenge of an aging workforce and the urgent need for new digital skills. As experienced technicians retire, businesses must equip the next generation with expertise in data-driven asset management, remote monitoring and predictive maintenance,” said Marco Tellarini, Senior Vice President for Europe, Middle East & Africa at ABB Electrification Service. “Our new UAE facility will help bridge the skills gap by combining practical training with exposure to cutting-edge digital and AI technologies.”

A Hub for Advanced Training and Technology

Located in Dubai’s Al Quoz Industrial Area, the 2,500-square-meter Customer Experience Center features a state-of-the-art workshop, a lecture theater, and collaborative training spaces. The facility is set to train approximately 2,000 engineers and technicians annually from across the Middle East.

The curriculum will focus on the latest in medium- and low-voltage technologies, digital asset management, AI applications, and predictive maintenance solutions. By showcasing advanced electrification and digital energy management tools, the center will help ABB’s customers, distributors, and partners adapt to rapid technological change.

Powering the UAE’s Energy Future

With the UAE’s electricity demand projected to grow by up to 4% annually through 2035, driven by urbanization and industrial growth, the need for advanced energy solutions is paramount. The new center will directly contribute to strengthening the UAE’s energy resilience and supporting its net-zero ambitions.

Furthermore, the facility will promote knowledge sharing for upgrading and retrofitting older technologies, enabling customers to improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and enhance reliability through modern digital asset management. This investment reinforces ABB’s long-standing commitment to the region, where it has operated since 1976 and currently employs over 600 people in the UAE and more than 1,200 across the GCC.
