Oman is taking a significant step towards cultivating its future technology workforce with the inauguration of the National Olympiad for Student Scientific Innovation, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence. Organized by the Ministry of Education, the 2025-2026 academic year competition kicked off at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, bringing together over 250 students and 108 specialists from across the Sultanate.

The annual Olympiad serves as a strategic platform to identify and develop the scientific and technical skills of young Omanis. This initiative is a core component of the country’s ‘Oman Vision 2040’ framework, which aims to transition the Sultanate into a diversified, knowledge-based economy driven by innovation and homegrown talent.

This year’s competition showcases 70 scientific projects across key sectors including Engineering Sciences and Energy, Information Technology, and Biological and Environmental Sciences. In a forward-looking move, the Olympiad has introduced new categories specifically for Artificial Intelligence-Enhanced Applications and Cybersecurity.

These new fields join established competitions in robotics and drones, reflecting a curriculum designed to align with the most pressing and high-growth areas of the global technology industry. The focus on these disciplines signals a clear intent to build a robust talent pipeline for Oman’s burgeoning startup ecosystem.
