Khobar-based deep-tech startup Strataphy has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global energy technology leader Baker Hughes to accelerate the deployment of geothermal-powered cooling solutions in Saudi Arabia. This partnership marks a significant step in the Kingdom’s energy transition, combining Strataphy’s proprietary subsurface-powered cooling platform with Baker Hughes’ extensive global scale and technical expertise.
Scaling Low-Carbon Infrastructure
Under the new agreement, Baker Hughes will serve as the preferred equipment and services provider for Strataphy’s growing portfolio of geothermal cooling projects. The collaboration aims to create a robust execution engine for low-carbon infrastructure by leveraging Baker Hughes’ four decades of leadership in geothermal energy alongside Strataphy’s innovative local solutions.
Fadi Al-Jafari, Vice President for the Saudi Arabia Geozone at Baker Hughes, highlighted the synergy, noting that the company is excited to deploy its subsurface-to-surface technologies in innovative direct-use applications within the Kingdom. This alliance is set to strengthen the local supply chain for sustainable energy projects, supporting Strataphy in executing high-impact deployments.
Pioneering Efficient Cooling for Vision 2030
The partnership addresses a critical need in Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing infrastructure sector. With cooling demand rising across data centers, giga-projects, healthcare facilities, and industrial sites, Strataphy’s geothermal solutions offer a compelling alternative to traditional HVAC systems. By utilizing the Earth’s stable subsurface temperatures, the technology can deliver up to 50% reductions in electricity consumption.
Dr. Ammar Alali, CEO of Strataphy, described the MoU as a milestone that demonstrates the scalability of their platform. He emphasized that the collaboration with a global leader like Baker Hughes proves that deep-tech innovation and local execution can work hand-in-hand to drive the energy transition, aligning directly with the industrial decarbonization goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
