Global mobility and urban services platform inDrive has revealed the 30 semi-finalists for the 2026 Aurora Tech Award, the only global prize dedicated to supporting women founders of technology startups in emerging markets. This year’s award saw a record-breaking 3,400 applications from 127 countries, highlighting the rapid growth of female entrepreneurship in developing economies.
Among the top contenders are two Egyptian startups, Taiseer and Fincart, underscoring the region’s rising influence in the global tech ecosystem.
MENA’s Strong Showing on a Global Stage
The semi-finalist cohort features a diverse geographical representation, with the Middle East and Africa region securing the second-largest share of spots at 23.3%. This strong presence demonstrates the region’s burgeoning startup scene, with founders from Nigeria, Kenya, Tunisia, and South Africa joining Egypt on the prestigious list.
Startups from the EMEA region are primarily focused on tackling infrastructure and access challenges through innovative solutions in FinTech, AI, AgriTech, and Enterprise Software. Latin America led the representation with 46.7% of the semi-finalists.
Spotlight on Egypt’s Innovators
Egypt’s representation by Taiseer and Fincart in the FinTech and Enterprise Software categories, respectively, reflects the country’s growing role as a hub for financial and institutional innovation. Their inclusion in the top 30 signals strong investor confidence and validates their potential to scale and create impact.
The list features a balanced mix of early-stage companies, with 16 startups at the Pre-Seed stage and 14 at the Seed stage.
A Diverse Cohort of Early-Stage Startups
The semi-finalists showcase key technology trends shaping emerging markets. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning startups were the most common, with seven companies making the list, tied with FinTech, which also had seven representatives.
Other prominent sectors included HealthTech & MedTech (6 startups), EdTech (3 startups), and Enterprise Software (2 startups). The cohort was further diversified by single startups in sectors like AdTech, AgriTech, Sustainability, and Construction Tech, reflecting the broad scope of innovation led by female founders.
The Path to the Top 30
The Aurora Tech Award employs a multi-level evaluation process to identify the strongest entrepreneurs. In collaboration with a network of over 40 venture capital partners, each startup is independently assessed by investors with direct expertise in their specific region, sector, and growth stage.
The final list is determined by comparing three key indicators: independent VC assessments, demonstrated investor confidence, and performance in the initial evaluation of the top 100 companies.
Isabella Gasmi-Smith, Head of the Aurora Tech Award, stated, “The Aurora selection process was deliberately designed to address one of the biggest challenges female founders face—access to investors and capital. By involving our global network of VCs directly in the evaluation process, Aurora ensures founders are seen by relevant investors as they’re being assessed, not after a list is published. The Top 30 is therefore not just a carefully vetted shortlist, but a group of female founders who have already gained direct exposure to capital and investor interest, creating momentum on both sides before formal fundraising conversations even begin.”
Finalists for the award are scheduled to be announced in February 2026, with the winners celebrated at a global ceremony later that year.
