DoorDash Pulls Deliveroo From Qatar In Wider Global Restructuring

3 Min Read

US-based food delivery giant DoorDash is ceasing operations for its Deliveroo and Wolt brands in Qatar as part of a strategic withdrawal from four markets across Asia and the Middle East. The move comes just over three years after Deliveroo first launched in the country. In a statement, the company confirmed that besides Qatar, it would also be winding down its services in Singapore, Japan, and Uzbekistan.

A Strategic Exit

DoorDash stated the decision followed a multi-month review of country-specific conditions, though further details were not provided. The company has committed to an orderly wind-down process in each market, working closely with local teams and partners to support employees, merchants, consumers, and couriers through the transition.

The exit follows a period of aggressive international expansion for DoorDash, which acquired Finnish delivery company Wolt in 2022 and UK-based Deliveroo in October 2025 to grow its footprint beyond North America.

Impact on Qatar’s Delivery Market

Deliveroo entered the Qatari market in September 2022, joining a competitive landscape. Its departure marks a significant shift and follows other major consolidation activities in the local ecosystem.

In a landmark deal in July 2025, Saudi Arabia’s Jahez acquired a 76.56 percent stake in Qatari delivery aggregator Snoonu for $245 million, signaling a strong move by regional players to dominate the market.

Consolidation in MENA’s Food Delivery Sector

The MENA region’s food delivery sector continues to witness intense competition and consolidation. According to data from Rapid Delivery Analytics, Saudi Arabia and the UAE represent the largest markets, accounting for 35 percent and 19 percent of the Middle East’s market share, respectively.

This trend of consolidation was further highlighted this month when Uber agreed to buy the delivery arm of Turkey’s Getir from its Emirati controlling shareholder, Mubadala, reshaping the competitive dynamics across the region.
