Abu Dhabi-based EDGE Group has signed a significant agreement with Spain’s EM&E Group to explore the establishment of a UAE-based joint venture. The new entity will be supported by a commercial pipeline estimated at approximately $1.5 billion, marking a major step in bolstering the UAE’s advanced technology and defence sector.
The landmark agreement was signed at EM&E Group’s headquarters in Spain by Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, and Fernando Fernández, CEO of EM&E Group. The ceremony was attended by Saleh Ahmad Salem Alzaraim Alsuwaidi, the UAE Ambassador to Spain.
A Strategic Alliance for Defence Innovation
Under the framework of the new partnership, EM&E Group will contribute its advanced remote weapon station technologies for deployment in the UAE and subsequent international markets. The proposed joint venture is set to become a powerhouse for co-developing additional defence systems, strategically combining premier European engineering with EDGE’s robust multi-domain defence platforms across air, land, and maritime sectors.
This collaboration aims to leverage the strengths of both companies to accelerate technology development and expand access to high-level global defence markets.
Bolstering the UAE’s Defence Ecosystem
A key objective of the initiative is to cultivate a highly skilled local workforce in the UAE, creating high-value employment opportunities across sales, engineering, and programme management functions. This move is designed to solidify the UAE’s growing reputation as a leading international hub for the development of next-generation defence technology.
Hamad Al Marar stated that the partnership enhances EDGE’s capabilities in advanced weapon systems and strengthens its presence in priority markets.
Fernando Fernández described the alliance as a milestone in EM&E Group’s international expansion, emphasizing the powerful integration of Spanish engineering expertise with the UAE’s dynamic defence ecosystem.
