Tunisia’s Agricultural Sector Records Double Digit Growth Driven By Sustainable SMEs

3 Min Read

Tunisia’s agricultural landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, emerging as a primary engine for national economic innovation. According to recent data from the National Institute of Statistics, the sector’s added value surged by 12.3% in the third quarter of 2025. This robust performance contributed 1.08 percentage points to the national GDP growth, signaling a high level of vitality within the local ecosystem. At the forefront of this shift are six Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) integrated into the Flat6Labs network, each championing sustainable practices and organic production.

Pioneering Organic Cultivation and Processing

Several Tunisian enterprises are focusing on the high-value market of medicinal plants and organic oils. AGAMAN specializes in the cultivation and valorization of Moringa and lemongrass, utilizing innovation to support rural employment. Similarly, Ecoland and AICOS are advancing the country’s footprint in the organic sector. Ecoland focuses on certified organic vegetable and essential oil extraction using eco-friendly processing , while AICOS prioritizes chemical-free farming to produce distilled water and plant-based products.+4

Diversifying Sustainable Farm Output

Beyond specialized oils, local SMEs are integrating livestock and crop production to build resilient agricultural models.

  • Farm Khachnaoui, based in Jelma, utilizes pesticide-free methods to raise poultry and cultivate organic almonds and olive oil.
  • Zerriaa operates as a consulting and farming firm dedicated to agroecology and permaculture, producing sustainable fruits, vegetables, and eggs.
  • Nahoul (Nectarious) has introduced a niche economic vertical by extracting and valorizing bee venom for sustainable applications.

Driving the Multiplier Effect in Tunisian AgTech

The growth of these SMEs reflects a broader trend of “conscious consumption” in the MENA region, where agroecology is being positioned as a solution to both climate and social challenges. By combining traditional agricultural expertise with modern sustainable innovation, these companies are not only contributing to the GDP but also creating stable economic opportunities within rural Tunisian communities.+2
