Global automotive technology company Valeo has inaugurated a new AI Development Centre in Cairo, a major expansion of its engineering operations that marks its 20th anniversary in the country. The move reinforces the Cairo office’s critical role in the French multinational’s global software strategy and signals growing confidence in Egypt’s high-calibre tech talent.
Quick Facts
- New AI development centre launched in Cairo.
- Starts with over 50 engineers, plans for 100+.
- Cairo R&D hub produces 50% of Valeo’s global software.
From Local Hub to Global Engine Room
Valeo’s presence in Egypt, established in 2005, has evolved far beyond a regional outpost. The Cairo site is now the Valeo Group’s largest software R&D centre in North Africa, with a talent pool of 3,000 engineers.
This team is responsible for approximately 50 percent of the Group’s total global software production, positioning Cairo as the engine room for the €20.9 billion company’s software operations. The new AI centre is designed to build on this two-decade trajectory, cementing its central role in the company’s future development.
Accelerating AI for Smart Mobility
The new centre will focus on accelerating the integration of AI across Valeo’s global operations and developing advanced tools for next-generation smart mobility software. It joins a global network of over 200 AI experts and a dedicated AI research centre, with the Cairo hub set to become a key node in this network.
Valeo has already deployed coding assist tools to all its software engineers worldwide. According to the company, 35 percent of all its validated software code is now produced using AI as of Q1 2026, and the Cairo AI centre is expected to drive that integration even further.
A Strategic Win for Egypt’s Tech Scene
The launch event was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Raafat Hendy, and Valeo Group Chief Executive, Christophe Périllat. The minister described the centre as a landmark in the country’s 20-year relationship with Valeo.
For Egypt, Valeo’s expansion provides a concrete validation of its push to position Cairo as a high-value R&D destination. It demonstrates that the country’s engineering talent pool has reached a level of maturity that global technology firms trust with their most strategic production and innovation.
