Khazna Data Centers Sets Global Benchmark with First-Ever Zero Waste Certification for Dubai Facility

3 Min Read

Abu Dhabi-based Khazna Data Centers, a major player in critical AI infrastructure, has announced that its DXB8 facility in Dubai is the first data center in the world to receive a Zero Waste Certification. The validation comes from SCS Global Services, a leading third-party sustainability certification body, marking a significant milestone for the region’s tech infrastructure sector.

Quick Facts

  • Global first zero waste data center certification.
  • 99.55% of facility waste diverted from landfill.
  • Audited over a 12-month operational period.

A New Standard for Sustainable Infrastructure

The certification confirms that Khazna’s DXB8 facility successfully diverted 99.55% of its non-IT waste from landfills over a 12-month audited period. The independent audit verified the effectiveness of the site’s operational controls and waste management systems.

The achievement was the result of a comprehensive strategy that includes disciplined waste segregation, recycling programs, bottle reuse initiatives with vendors, resale of materials, and composting. This approach aligns with recognized best practices in the waste hierarchy, a notable accomplishment for mission-critical infrastructure where complexity and uptime are paramount.

Beyond a Single Initiative

The certification process assessed all waste generated by the facility, excluding tenant IT equipment in the data halls. It highlights not only the quantity of waste diverted but also the strength of the underlying governance and workplace culture driving long-term waste reduction.

“This certification is an important milestone in our sustainability journey,” said Elisabetta Baronio, Director – ESG at Khazna Data Centers. “Achieving Zero Waste status is not about a single initiative. It is the result of consistent operational discipline, strong partnerships across our supply chain, and a culture that prioritizes environmental responsibility alongside performance and reliability.”

Powering AI Responsibly

The accomplishment at DXB8 is part of Khazna’s wider ESG strategy, which integrates sustainability across the design, construction, and operation of its facilities globally. The company focuses on resource-efficient construction, advanced cooling technologies, and responsible materials management.

As the demand for AI-ready infrastructure continues to grow, Khazna aims to support the digital economy by delivering resilient, sovereign-ready data centers while minimizing environmental impact and contributing to national and global sustainability goals.
